BAKED TOMATOES Tomatoes (32 oz. canned or 2 lb. fresh) 2 c. sugar Dash of salt 1 stick butter About 8 slices bread

Stale bread is okay; the older the bread, it makes it more crunchy, but no mold please! If the tomatoes are fresh, combine all ingredients and simmer on top of the stove for a few minutes. Aunt Lill' says that this is so the tomatoes can get kind of juicy like. Add the bread last, because you don't want it to get too soggy. If the tomatoes are canned, combine all ingredients at once.

Whether the tomatoes are canned or fresh, the rest of the procedure goes as follows: Arrange all ingredients in an ungreased casserole dish, and bake about 30 minutes at 325 to 350 degrees, until the edges begin to brown.
