“What is faith?
It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen.
It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.”
Hebrews 11:1
• “If we begin with certainties, we shall end in doubts,” said Francis Bacon, the seventeenth-century originator of the scientific method. “But if we begin with doubts, and are patient in them, we shall end in certainties.” Isn’t that how it is with faith? We may not be sure, at first. But the more we live with God, the more we find His promises standing firm. And, ultimately, when we see the Lord face-to- face, all our doubts will be turned to eternal certainties. One of my most precious faith-assurances is belief in the Resurrection. So many of my friends and family have died in my lifetime: mother, father, son. But somehow I manage to let them go. How is it possible? I know they will be raised . . . and I know I will follow. Faith in God is never disappointed.
