“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes.
You should be known for the beauty that comes from within,
the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”
1 Peter 3:3–4
• I took this Scripture’s beauty advice to heart at a young age and dressed casually for school and even for church. Outward appearances weren’t supposed to matter. Then, as a young adult, I received a free makeover. It was impressive! Was that beauty in the mirror really . . . me? Yes, it was nice. It was also temporary. That is, I just couldn’t believe the work it would require, every morning, to get myself in makeover style each day. Hours and hours a week getting hair and face just right . . . and for what? Here’s how I see it: Highlight your best features, be clean and as attractive as you can be, and . . . get on with your life! According to the Scriptures, you’ll be perfectly beautiful depending upon how the Lord has been grooming your inner spirit. The beauty of a gentle spirit will shine through any face.
