“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9
• When Katie and Kayla squabble among themselves, their mother, Eleanor, reminds them, “God blesses those who work for peace.” Her words of caution always make me smile. Between sisters, peace rarely seems attainable. At times we wonder whether peace is a reachable goal within the family of God, as well. One day, hearing Eleanor’s familiar correction, the word “work” stood out to me. Instantly, I knew that tiny word is crucial. In this world of quick fixes and instant potatoes, we like things to come easily for us. But peace takes work. If we can learn to smile through painful accusations, listen to differences of opinions, sincerely consider another’s suggested plan, then peace will come to pass. I want to work for peace. I want to be known as Pam, blessed child of God. Make peace your career choice; it yields a large salary of blessings.
