Food and a Roof

“You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.”
Psalm 23:5
• It had begun innocently enough. My friends had charged a few things they couldn’t afford “right at that moment,” hoping next month would be better. Instead of better, it got worse. A premature baby and medical bills. A car accident and repair bills. A temporary layoff and . . . the bills kept coming. Eventually, they had to declare bankruptcy. One thing they had going for them was the assurance that loyal relatives would help keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. Without that promise, they wouldn’t have had the strength to keep trying, day after day, to pay off their debt. We have a greater assurance. Christ prepares a place in Heaven for us. A place of beauty and grace. A place free from trouble. A place to forget that we ever even had troubles at all. When daily living drags you down, look to God’s promises.
