“There is . . . a time to embrace.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 5
• Carolyn’s friend, Linda, had battled cancer for nine years. Now it was evident she was losing her fight and had only days to live. When Carolyn went for a visit, Linda’s daughter, Beth, was there. Carolyn asked Beth how she was coping. The question released a torrent of tears. Carolyn went to her and gave Beth a big hug. At the funeral, Beth told Carolyn how much she had appreciated that hug. It came at a time when she needed encouragement. It was such a simple act, but it meant much to a young woman who sat by her mother’s side as death drew near. Most of us have been blessed through the kind, loving touch of others. Now it is time to pass along that love. We never know when we might give a hug, just in time, to someone struggling with a grievous burden. There is someone near you who needs a kind word or a touch of love.
