“Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
and there are no grapes on the vine; even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation.”
Habakkuk 3:17–18
• For the prophet Habakkuk, it was about poor crops and dwindling flocks. For me, it was about poor transportation. I’m talking about my car—an aging 1991 Hyundai Excel. I was on my way to an important meeting. And even though the oil is leaking and the seats have no softness and the windshield is cracked and the paint is rusting and the bumper is bashed and the mirror is broken . . . . . . Yet . . . I will arrive. It’s true of all of us believers. Our lives here on Earth will, as Jesus said, swirl with trials and tribulations. That’s a promise. But because our Savior has risen and arrived in Heaven—and is seated at the right hand of the Father—we too will arrive, safe and sound. Therefore, rejoice. Let us be joyful, not in the circumstances, but in the One who reigns over them.
