“Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him,
so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught.
Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done.”
Colossians 2:7
• We were stunned by the four hurricanes that hit our Florida town in quick succession. Not only did we face fear before each storm hit. We also dealt with uncomfortable power out- ages afterward: sleeping in 90-degree night times with no air- conditioning, eating peanut-butter sandwiches with warm water, lighting candles each evening—and not checking important e-mails. Things could have been worse. Our house was saved, and our family members all survived without injury. But not the trees! So many seemingly immovable oak trees lay on the grass all around town, tipped over by the wind as if they were light as paper. Some of them had lived for centuries, but apparently their roots were more shallow than anyone knew. It can happen to us. But growing our roots strong in the nourishment of God’s truth will keep us standing through the strongest storms. How is your root system these days? Be thankful: God’s truth is free and available to make you strong.
