“She rises also while it is still night . . . gives food to her household . . . considers a field . . . grasps the spindle . . . makes coverings for herself
. . . supplies belts to tradesmen . . . she smiles at the future.”
Proverbs 31
• Many women look to the Proverbs 31 woman for inspiration. This biblical role model did it all—managing real estate, cooking, tailoring—and she dressed well while she was at it! She was smart, good-looking, and happy (she smiled at the future). She was also one thing above all others: She was busy. I often hear speakers talk about busyness as if it were an incurable disease, when the truth is busyness is a natural out- come of health and prosperity. Most people in the world would be delighted to drive my minivan around all day with its air- conditioning, books on CD, even my choice of music at the touch of a button. Not exactly torture, but, yes, I agree I feel too busy. I’m simply saying that even busyness can be a blessing. The key is: What am I busy about? Give thanks for the chance to be busy doing good.
