Toddling

“I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” Psalm 16:8
• “He’s walking!” My daughter-in-law’s excitement was contagious, even over the phone line. For weeks, she and our son had offered little Levi a hand to help him progress into official “toddlerdom.” But day after day he’d refused and simply crawled away. “What did the trick?” I asked. “Well, he found an inflated balloon. Thinking it was tethered to something he could trust he held it high, left the table, and took his first little walk.” I’m so like my grandson. Instead of trusting the firm hand of the Lord, I often wait until I discover something I can see, feel, or touch—and grab hold. A friendship. A bank account. A bit of status. But why should I settle for unstable things and just toddle through life? Why grasp for air when you can grasp the outstretched hand of God?
