“In the beginning the Word already existed.
He was with God, and he was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
He created everything there is.
Nothing exists that he didn’t make.”
John 1:1–3
• One of the most amazing things about Jesus is His awesome genealogy. In these initial verses from John’s Gospel, I’m faced with a claim of His eternal existence. Will I dare to believe it? Or will I settle for calling Jesus merely a great teacher (which is the popular approach of our society today)? One of my favorite things to think about, as a person who loves studying ancient history, is, “How did everything come to be?” The simple truth is that God thought, then spoke. There is something about that initial vibration; it set everything else into motion and into being. But not Jesus. He always was. He always will be. Will You call Him Lord of all? Jesus is a great teacher . . . but much more: your ever-living Lord.
