“You are united with the one who was raised from the dead.”
Romans 7:4
• Jenny, the dining aide at the retirement home, knows Ava’s routine. Ava takes her place at table number two, and Jenny brings her special china cup with a tea bag and silver spoon. “Papaya Peppermint, my favorite. Pour the water onto the tea for better favor; never dunk the bag in the water.” Jenny always smiles at the oft-repeated words. Together the two wait for the tea to steep, and then Ava takes one spoonful of sugar and carefully stirs it in. “Just right,” she says after a first sip. “I love my tea.” One day I watched Ava’s routine from table number three, and thought of our relationship with Jesus. Once Ava stirs that sugar, it becomes part of the tea, and no one can remove it. In similar fashion, Jesus becomes one with us when we accept His wonderful plan of salvation. He permeates our lives as sugar permeates tea.
