“[Christ] made himself nothing;
he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form.”
Philippians 2:7
• Our great Lord didn’t remain outside His creation; He chose to inhabit it. But He had to limit Himself to do it. In fact, one Bible translation says that Christ “emptied himself” to come to earth. That is, He chose not to manifest all His heavenly glory among us. We wouldn’t be able to take it! It’s like us reading a story and really getting into it. But we have to limit our thinking to the boundaries of the setting. If the story comes from centuries past, and from a different culture, then we must keep our minds in that framework. We empty out everything we know of our modern world to interact with characters who couldn’t relate to computers and DVD players. Similarly, Jesus humbly entered our existence. To relate to us. Someday we will relate to Him in all His fullness. What a glorious future lies ahead!
