“The LORD who created you says: ‘Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.’ ”
Isaiah 43:1
• My friend had been experiencing crippling bouts of panic attacks. She was over eight hundred miles away, so I couldn’t reach out and hug her. But I prayed for her every day. She called one day, saying, “Yesterday afternoon, I was upstairs in the hallway, seized by another panic attack, when I heard someone say, ‘You are mine, trust me, you are mine.’” She thought her husband had called her from their bedroom. She went to the room, and nobody was there. “Please don’t think I’m weird, but I believe the Lord spoke to me,” she said. I thought about the prayer I’d recorded in my journal: “God, please be real to her so she’ll know, unmistakably, that You are there with her.” “I don’t think you’re weird at all,” I replied. “But I’ve never seen the Lord work so fast to answer prayer!” The Lord calls us by name and releases us from our anxieties.
