“Though your hearts were once full of darkness,
now you are full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it!”
Ephesians 5:8
• Tuning our thoughts to God brings a marvelous clarity of thought—light—to our troubled minds. I’d been giving lots of time and energy to the Girl Scouts of America. But recently I received what I thought was a clear leading from God to resign from leadership duties in the organization. I fought it, because scouting is . . . fun. To quit or not to quit? My thoughts chased themselves in my head. I couldn’t seem to hold a thought long enough to examine it. Finally, I gave up and said, “God, I’ll do it your way.” Immediately, my tired mind was flooded with a brilliant clarity of thought. My body fell back into its regular sleeping pattern. God, it turned out, wasn’t telling me to resign, but to accept a new direction, to become the leader of an outreach troop of girls who would otherwise be deprived of the scouting experience. In quietness, open your troubled thoughts to God.
