“As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend.”
Proverbs 27:17
• “I need somebody to pray for me,” Hazel told our Wednesday- night Bible-study group. When my turn came, I prayed for Hazel. At the end of the hour, the group broke up, and she came and put her arms around me. With tears in her eyes, she said, “I’ve never heard anyone pray aloud for me before.” Hazel has many friends who would willingly do anything for her, if only she asked. That night, she spoke up and told us what she needed. Such a simple request—she just needed to know that somebody in that room would pray for her. Friends are like two pieces of iron that sharpen and strengthen each other. We can do it by caring enough to encourage or to confront or even just to pray. Sharpen a friend with your words and your prayers.
