Flowery Blessing

“If God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t he more surely care for you?”
Matthew 6:30
• My ailing grandmother had the whitest hair you ever saw. When I was ten, I gently brushed it with a soft brush, and she smiled and said, “Thank you, honey.” One day, in a surge of love for her, I went out and cut all the morning glories bursting off their vine, brought them in, and scattered them everywhere over Grandma’s bed as she lay beneath her tapestry quilt. “These are for you, Grandma. They’ll cheer you up!” Her crinkly pink smile deepened. “A garden of blessings. Like the blessings God scatters over us every day.” Now grown up, when I’m blue, I remember that garden of pink, fuchsia, deep purple, and sky blue petals covering an old lady’s bed and warming her heart. And I count my blessings. Blessings cover you whether or not you are aware of each one.
