Be Where You Are

“Jesus spoke to them at once. ‘It’s all right,’ he said. ‘I am here! Don’t be afraid.’ ” Matthew 14:27

• Have you been experiencing sleepless nights? Illness? Financial troubles? Interpersonal problems? Fear and worry sap our strength during these times. They fill us with stress and interfere with our physical and mental health. “‘Do not be afraid’ appears 365 times in the Bible,” a pastor once said. Wow, I thought, that’s once for every day! Of course, the literal truth of the statement depends on which Bible translation one uses. But the point remains: Jesus is always with us; we need never be afraid. What if we are afraid, though? That’s the beauty of it. We simply welcome His presence there, too, into a heart of fearfulness. He comes to every open heart, whatever emotion it holds. God wants to be with us, so let’s be where we really are.
