“You must not forget, dear friends,
that a day is like a thousand years to the Lord,
and a thousand years is like a day.”
2 Peter 3:8
• Think about what you were doing on one of your longest days. You don’t have to be an Einstein to be convinced that time is relative. How quickly the clock moves when we are caught up in a thoroughly enjoyable activity! But how slowly the minutes tick away when we’re bored or suffering through a painful ordeal. For Christians, the days and years have gradually accumulated since Jesus ascended into Heaven with a promise to return. What are we to do in the meantime? Apostle Peter’s answer: Keep living holy lives while watching for that blessed day. For as our Scripture today plainly tells us, God’s timing is not ours. And the longer the wait, the greater the testimony to God’s enduring patience, His willingness that we have every last minute to respond to His awesome love—in gratitude and holy living. In your prayer time today, ask the Lord for a renewed anticipation of His arrival.
