“All of you together are Christ’s body,
and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
• My Medicare-aged body betrayed me. It couldn’t keep up with my young mind as I chased a tennis ball. There was instant pain in my hip, but I kept playing in our doubles match to see if it would work itself out. It was not to be; I was “benched” for days as I got therapy for that hip. One part of my body affected the rest of me. I needed to care for that part until my whole body could return to the court. Paul tells us the church consists of differing units, but every part has a place in God’s plan. And since Christ is the head of the body, when its members are hurt, He feels the pain. The challenge for me, then, is this: Will I, too, feel the hurt in the lives of my brothers and sisters? Will I reach out with help and healing? Today, be alert to the hurt.
