“He rebuked the wind and said to the waters, ‘Quiet down!’ ”
Mark 4:39
• It was my first pregnancy, and my contractions began in the seventh month. The doctor ordered me to bed, starting me on a course of injections to strengthen my baby’s lungs in case of a premature birth. “Lungs are the last vital organs to develop,” he explained. Cruel needles stabbed my fresh repeatedly during the next couple of weeks. Ouch! But because I trusted my doctor, I put up with the pain and discomfort; I knew those injections would help my unborn baby. Jesus was asleep in the boat when a fierce storm broke, and He chose to still the waters. Sometimes, however, the Lord lets us endure the pain, knowing it will strengthen our endurance in the long run. Faith in God cannot prevent suffering, but faith assures us that God is with us in the midst of all our difficulties. Jesus always rides in the same boat with us.
