“I also tell you this: If two of you agree down here on earth
concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.”
Matthew 18:19
• Bev came in distraught. “Sit,” I said, pouring tea. “What’s wrong?” “Sue, I had a terrible night, afraid, imagining blood, death. I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t even pray.” “You haven’t heard anything yet?” “Not a word. Do you think Nathan is dead?” Her eyes were bloodshot. I would weep too, if my Joe were in harm’s way like Nathan, volunteering to fight terrorists abroad. “Let’s ask God to help you.” Her cold hand lay stiff in my grasp. “Lord, Bev doesn’t know what’s happening to Nathan. She can’t help him. She’s weak and afraid. Please comfort her.” Bev’s hand relaxed. She murmured, “God, I trust You. So I’m giving Nathan to You. Whatever happens, You’re in charge.” Her eyes filled, but I heard new hope in her words. “It’s nice having a Father take care of things, isn’t it?” I smiled. “Now that you’ve let go, God can take over.” Faith in God brings inner peace.
