“You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person
who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Colossians 3:13
• As my brother Fred rode his Harley-Davidson home after a date, a car pulled out in front of him. Minutes after the crash, he bled to death. The driver of that car had been drunk—and now my stomach churned as I saw him again months later in a courtroom. To tell you the truth, I wished I could make him hurt the way I hurt. I felt that way for years, until I met Christ and purposely chose forgiveness. Over time the stress and pain left, and that’s when I learned that Jesus’ command to forgive isn’t merely for the benefit of the one who did wrong. I saw that my anger never hurt that man; he never even knew about my rage toward him. But it was eating me up inside. I needed to forgive so I could . . . live. To forgive is to enter back into life.
