“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance.”
1 Corinthians 13:7
• “I can’t forgive him,” I cried. “I am simply unable.” My pastor listened to my story of Dad’s hurtful behaviors and how I had lost hope of ever trusting him again. After years of rejection and criticism due to his alcoholism, I’d vowed to never let him hurt me again. Pastor Jake responded, “God doesn’t want your ability, He wants your availability. Are you willing to forgive your dad? If you are, then God is able.” That afternoon, I asked the Lord to protect my heart. I called my father and told him I forgave him. I didn’t know that for months, he’d been suffering guilt and sorrow for the pain he’d caused me. He showed up on my doorstep the next day with flowers. We reconciled, and not only did he accept me as his daughter, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. God delights when we obey the leading of His Spirit to forgive and reconcile with another.
