“No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it is painful!
But afterward there will be a quiet harvest of right living for those
who are trained in this way.”
Hebrews 12:11
• Jill discovered she was going to have to work both Saturday and Sunday to get her software presentation ready for the incoming VIPs from Saigon. This meeting would be the culmination of a year’s work. Though thrilled at the opportunity, the personal cost weighed heavily on Jill’s conscience. Saturday was her son Lannie’s last Indian Guide meeting. She had missed so many. As a single parent, she wanted more time with her family, but she felt helpless to change her situation. Late Friday night, as Jill got out of her car, she stepped on Lannie’s aluminum bat and fell. She heard rather than felt the bone in her arm snap. Later, back home and still reeling from the ER’s powerful painkiller, she awkwardly dialed her boss’s home phone number. She felt strange. Then she recognized the feeling. She was happy. She was going to an Indian Guide meeting. Even in our pain, we can slow down and look up.
