“He comforts us in all our troubles.”
2 Corinthians 1:4
• When a friend’s five-year-old son was murdered, I could hardly eat or sleep for weeks. My prayer life ceased. I cried easily and experienced a searing grief I’d never felt before. One evening, I dropped to my knees beside the bed and began to sing hymns and worship songs. I quoted every Bible verse I’d ever memorized. Then I fell asleep. The next morning, I felt a measure of peace returning to my spirit. It was as though the gaping wound inside me was being gently pushed together by healing hands. Jesus uses a variety of ways to comfort our grieving spirits: a friend’s embrace, a song, a poem, a piece of prose, a verse of Scripture. It will take much time for deep wounds to mend, and some scars never fade. We let the pain become a part of us as we move forward by God’s grace. God’s provision for your sorrow is His Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
