“Good news from far away is like cold water to the thirsty.”
Proverbs 25:25
• “Hey, girl! How are you doing?” My friend Don always has an uplifting attitude. He is an old high school classmate and occasionally we talk by phone. Almost thirty years after our school years ended, our friendship has resumed. When we get in touch, we first discuss our families and then always move on to our hometown. Since I live a thousand miles from my hometown, and did not have much contact with my classmates for many years, news from home is welcome—like a well-worn and favorite book read once again. Once, Don said to me, “I will never call you when I’m having a bad day.” Not all friends are that considerate. Of course, I don’t mind bearing burdens, but here is one person I know will always greet me with uplifting conversation. The Lord gives us special people to travel with us on life’s road.
