“No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.”
John 14:18
• My husband lay near death in a special hospital ward that did not allow me to see him. Once or twice a day I phoned the hospital, where medical personnel told me about his condition and treatment. Following one call, I cried aloud to God, not in words but in sobs. Then I remembered how God’s own son, Jesus, died on the cross so that we could have forgiveness and eternal life. He knew my pain, and I was not alone. Jesus promised He’d never abandon us, and He keeps His promises. That day, He gave me peace and rest—and kept giving through the dark days that loomed ahead. I’m comforted to know what the Lord knows: my deepest, darkest fears and sorrows, like no one else. As a member of God’s family, I’ll never be an orphan.
