Who’s Talking?

“I will delight in your principles and not neglect your Word.”

Psalm 119:16

• Often when I pray, I’m doing all the talking and expecting God to do all the listening. When I read the Bible too, it becomes more of a two-way conversation. God is speaking to me through His Word, and I am responding in prayer. Surely God’s words to me are as important as my words to Him! Prayer by itself, apart from Scripture, can easily become “me-centered.” But when I open my Bible, it’s no longer all about me. It’s about God and His plans and purposes. He invites me to be a part of His life and work. One of the benefits of memorizing Scripture is that no matter where I am, the Holy Spirit can bring His Word to my mind and speak to my heart. That way, I can always count on having a two-way conversation with my Heavenly Father. Be sure to let God get a word in edgewise.
