“Elijah was afraid and fled for his life.”
1 Kings 19:3
• One question I face today: How will I handle the pressure? What will I confront in this day that will require me boldly to meet my obligations, or will tempt me to run in the opposite direction? A bold prophet named Elijah, just after a smashing success in a showdown with foreign gods, got scared and took off running. Perhaps he was afraid he’d now have to maintain his miracle-working reputation forever. A story like that means a lot to me because I, too, get scared by the demand to keep producing at ever more spectacular levels. But, at any moment, I can turn to help from above. Though tempted to throw in the towel (right now?), no doubt today, or tomorrow, or next week, I’ll feel some sparks of heavenly boldness reigniting my courage. God gives uncommon boldness to meet our pressure filled days.
