Lahmacun (pronounced lock-MAH-June) is a type of Turkish pizza which is covered with a spicy mince mixture. The dish is quick and easy to make and extremely flavorful, so if you're in the mood for "something different" try this awesome dish.
Ingredients:
B-well baking spray B-well canola olive oil 1 tablespoon butter 1 onion, finely chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 220 grams lamb or beef mince 2 tomatos, peeled, seeded and chopped 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/2 green pepper, finely chopped 1 table spoon tomato paste 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh mint (optional) 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley A fresh ball of pizza dough, store bought Juice of 1 lemon Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 220°C.
2. Melt the butter in a skillet, add the onion and saute until softened, 5 to 7 minutes. Add the garlic and saute another minute. Transfer onion mixture to a large bowl, add all the remaining ingredients above (only leave out the lemon juice), and mix thoroughly with your fingertips. If mixture seems too dry, add a teaspoon of water.
3. Place a ball of dough on a floured surface and roll into a round, flat circle, roll the dough out really thin so it looks like a medium or large pizza base. Spray some B-well baking spray on a baking tray an then place the thinly rounded dough on a flat baking tray. Brush the top of the dough with B-well canola olive oil and spread with a thin, even layer of the meat filling, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edge.
4. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. The dough should still be soft enough to roll up.
5. Squeeze a little lemon juice and drizzle over some B-well canola olive oil over each of the hot lahmacuns, and serve immediately either flat or rolled up into cones.
