“The LORD is like a father to his children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear him.”
Psalm 103:13
• When our daughter was a toddler, she was quite unsteady and yet quite daring as well. She loved to run, climb, crawl into little spaces, corner the dog, and try new things. Many times her adventurous spirit resulted in falls, scrapes, bruises, frights, and frustrations. Yet whenever she cried out to her father, he was there to comfort and hold her, to encourage her to try again—or try something a better way. I loved watching my husband’s inter- action with her, the compassion he showed her in times of fear and disappointment. God is the ultimate compassionate Father. He listens to my fears, gives me hope when I fall and fail, forgives my mistakes, and heals my bruised heart. The best of all fathers, God wants the best for us. We know it’s true, because it’s exactly how we feel about our own kids. The Father hurts when we hurt and rejoices in our joy.
